Lingering

If you’ve taken a yoga class you know that at the end of class the instructor always invites you to stay in shavasana ‘for as long as you like.’ The majority of people tend to end their practice at this point and jump up to the next activity of their day. I am usually in that majority. The sense of urgency that encompasses me at times (NYC girl) is unwavering. Fast walker. Fast talker. Impatience in crowds. However, moving to San Francisco has slowed down that pace. Less people, less urgency, less distractions. (Still working on the slower walking though 😛) Today I had nowhere to be after class…I accepted the invitation to linger in shavasana for a few extra minutes. While everyone around me ended their practice, I bathed in the warmth of mine. One hand on my belly, one hand on my heart. Nowhere to go but inward. It was delicious. No sense of urgency. Just here. Now. Present
